Ye Mystic Krewe of the Nautilus joined forces with SWIM (Surface Water Improvement & Management) and Tampa Bay Watch for one of the largest salt marsh planting efforts in history. ??We were among numerous other volunteer groups who converged??to plant 40,000 plants along two miles of shoreline at??the Rock Ponds which is near Ruskin, just north of Palmetto. “This project aims to create critical coastal wetland habitat that will restore essential fish and wildlife habitats, and aid in the improvement of water quality from pollution due to urban and agricultural runoff. The Rock Ponds is the largest wetland restoration site in Tampa Bay. The site was historically agriculture fields, shell mining pits, and dominated by non-native and nuisance plant species.” [TBW] Thanks much to Diana Kloskowski, Carol Conn, Mike Pastore, Ryan Kloskowski, Brian Willis, Karen Garcia-McGowan, and Brian McGowan.
