Volunteer Workday at the Florida Learning GardenThe Florida Learning Garden, a project of Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful in partnership with the Florida State Fair Authority, is a permanent one-acre interactive educational experience. The display garden features raised beds, hydroponics, hugelkulture beds, a Florida-Friendly Walking Trail, butterfly gardens, composting system, and the Cargill Windmill. From ‘right-plant-right-place’ to best practices for water conservation, the Florida Learning Garden educates residents on multiple growing techniques and sustainable practices to utilize in their own homes and gardens.

YMKN members who volunteer for the full time will receive three (3) hours of volunteer credit.

To participate,

1) RSVP to this invitation (so YMKN knows who is going) and
2) Register on EventBrite (so KTBB knows who is going).

Notes:

  • This is a public event with only 40 spots available, so register now if you want to go.
  • When you register on EventBrite, you will receive a confirmation from Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.  The confirmation includes information on which fairgrounds entrance to use (usually Orient Rd), etc.  If you have a problem finding the garden, it's near Gate 3.  Look for the windmill as a landmark.

Volunteers can assist with a variety of tasks such as planting, harvesting, and weeding (mainly weeding). There are a few requirements for volunteering at the garden. Please come prepared to get dirty; wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can be dirtied. There is limited shade at the garden, so sun protection is top priority; please wear hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. Water will be provided, however in the name of conservation, we do encourage volunteers to bring reusable water bottles.

About us

Ye Mystic Krewe of the Nautilus is a 501c3 organization dedicated to having fun while promoting philanthropy, environmental awareness and conservation of our beautiful Tampa Bay Area.  We do this through participation in the Gasparilla parades and related events, as well as a variety of hands-on activities with our charitable partners.

Our mission is to promote Florida environmental awareness and conservation through friendly partnerships, education, charity sponsorship and community service. We volunteer and participate in various clean-up and conservation projects in the Tampa Bay area.  We also raise funds for the 1 Voice Foundation in order to enhance current programs for children & families fighting pediatric cancer.
