Ahoy Nauti-Mates!
To celebrate Earth Day, Ye Mystic Krewe of the Nautilus will be taking to the water by either kayak or paddleboard and collecting marine debris while we are out and about. Lunch at The Getaway when finished.
Details:
This is a self-led cleanup event to support Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful while abiding by the social distancing guidelines set out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We will meet in the parking lot of Urban Kai to pick up our kayak or paddleboard rentals and launch from there. Plan to arrive early to fill out paperwork, etc. We will be collecting marine debris along Weedon Island Preserve, which is an expansive 3,190-acre natural area located on Tampa Bay. This coastal system, comprised of aquatic and upland ecosystems, is home to numerous species of native plants and animals, an educational facility and a rich cultural history. Indigenous peoples occupied this site for thousands of years. Today, the preserve protects this wide diversity of natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. Weedon Island Preserve is also a well-known birding and fishing site.
Volunteer hours: 2
Once we are finished (approx. 1:00) we will walk over to The Getaway for lunch. Krewe members that can’t attend the cleanup are welcome to join us for lunch, around 1:30.
